DeriveIt's Web Content Filter: Product Usage

To modify administrator settings, the DeriveIt web content filter administrator must perform the following steps:

  1. Go to the "Tools" menu on IE and select "DeriveIt Filter Settings".


  2. Enter the administrator password on the "DeriveIt's Administrator Password Required" dialog and click on the "OK" button.  (Currently, the administrator password should be left blank when first used)



  3. "DeriveIt's Filter Settings" dialog will appear.

 

The following settings may be modified per user:

  1. Select Categories to Filter - when the user clicks on the "Select categories." button the "Select Categories to Filter" dialog appears with which the user add or remove categories for filtering.



     
  2. Blocked Content Override - when the "Allow administrator override of content blocking via password" is checked, the DeriveIt web content filter administrator may access blocked content by entering the administrator password.
     
  3. Show Intermediate Display - when the "Show intermediate display" is checked content will be displayed as it is made available (Warning: undesired content may be displayed since the decision to block is made after all content has been received).

The following settings may be modified for the entire system:

  1. Change Administrator Password - the DeriveIt web content filter administrator my change their password by clicking on this button, which will bring up "DeriveIt's Change Administrator Password" dialog.

  1. Edit Whitelist - the DeriveIt web content filter whitelist (allowing the viewing of blocked websites) may be edited by clicking on the "Edit Whitelist" button on the settings dialog screen.

The block screen will appear in the browser when a user attempts to navigate to a website containing undesirable content with the following information:

  1. The URL of the site will be displayed.
  2. The category for which the content was blocked.
  3. Confidence level of the categorization.

If the content block override feature has been enabled, a dialog will appear allowing the filter administrator to override the block, and allow viewing of the blocked page.

 



Perform the following steps to uninstall DeriveIt's Web Content Filter:

  1. Go to the "Start" menu and select "Control Panel".
  2. Select "Add or Remove Programs."
  3. Scroll down to the "DeriveIt's Content Filter." and click on the "Change/Remove" button.
  4. The program is now uninstalled.
